breakfast criminals: pomegranate strawberry cocoa smoothie bowl
posted: February 1, 2014
Of the notable dates in February—like Groundhog Day, Presidents Day (US) and Family Day (Canada)—Valentine’s Day is perhaps the most universal. February also happens to be Heart Month in both Canada and the US.
But do you really need these events to remind you to embrace your heart?
There are several things that make me feel radiant love, including experiencing a deep connection with another person, a sweaty yoga class and a nice meditation. Then of course there are healthy, nourishing, colourful foods, such as this all-natural pomegranate and raw cocoa smoothie bowl, which aims to support heart health.
In Greek mythology Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, was said to have planted the first pomegranate tree, launching its status as an aphrodisiac. Whether you’re going to indulge in this smoothie bowl solo or share it with your honey, remember that anything made with attention and love is the best gift anyone can give or get—on Valentine’s Day and beyond.
POMEGRANATE STRAWBERRY COCOA SMOOTHIE BOWL
vegan, soy-free, sugar-free
1 cup fresh pomegranate juice
1 ripe banana
½ cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
½ cup strawberries (fresh or frozen)
2 tbs raw cacao powder
1 tbs raw cocoa nibs
½ cup chocolate granola
strawberries, blueberries, blackberries
1 tbs goji berries
1 tbs raw cacao nibs
This smoothie bowl is full of antioxidants, fiber, calcium, magnesium, potassium, Vitamin C and iron.
It helps lower cholesterol and blood presure, supports your body’s anti-inflammatory functions, and is said to act (fingers crossed) as an aphrodisiac.
