It is, as we all know, about balance.
And by “it” we mean “life” and by “balance” we mean…wait, what do we mean?
The state of balance is different for everyone, so how do we know where to get started finding our own balance? Recently, we began with our yoga mats and Gloria Latham.
Yoga mats we all know, but this may be your first introduction to Gloria. She’s director of yoga teacher training at Semperviva Yoga College, and an experienced registered yoga teacher (ERYT 500) at the 500 hour level with Yoga Alliance. Her passion for yoga has led her to open four Semperviva Yoga Studios in Vancouver and to create uplifting and transformative retreats and teacher trainings across the globe.
Gloria engages her students on a level that is both powerful and profound. Woven throughout her teachings is wisdom that encourages her students to take control of their own lives. Not only are her classes designed to detoxify, cleanse and strengthen on a physical level, but they work equally as powerfully on a mental and spiritual level to de-stress, provide clarity, embrace one’s personal and individual challenges and to let go of the unnecessary clutter.
For the above reasons (and, let’s be honest, because we think she’s rad), when our designers decided to create a colourful chakra-inspired mat series they thought immediately of Gloria. Who better to condense the meditations into inspiring phrases to put on the mats?
We all love to put a face to a name. This is Gloria
“The chakras are about the movement of energy through your body, getting out of the esoteric and getting grounded. They’re complex, but not,” Gloria explains. “I don’t like to throw around Sanskrit words, and the beauty of explaining the chakras in a few words, like we did for these mats, is that it makes the chakras accessible.”
As such, she’s broken down six of the chakras into bite sized, easy-to-understand summaries like “let your creative juices flow,” “me turns into we” and “we are all one.” These words are imprinted on our six special edition yoga mats.
“Chakras are how we relate to the world,” says Gloria, seen here relating to a beautiful world
