As a runner, yoga is a way for me to keep my body together and balanced, so I had been frequenting other studios in Whistler but suddenly felt the hunger for something different—somewhere outside of my comfort zone.

The neighbourhood: Yogacara is in Whistler’s picturesque pedestrian-only village, and is surrounded by restaurants, shops and the buzz of excited visitors and locals. The studio sits just off Village Stroll in the St. Andrews Building (behind 21 Steps restaurant) and is about a three-minute walk from the base of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains.
The studio: The studio was warm and inviting with music to match the vibe. Bonnie, our instructor, was at the desk to greet me; she’s soft spoken and has an incredibly beautiful demeanor. The studio is spacious but cozy with a great view of the village. They have everything there for you—you just have to bring yourself to your practise! Off to the side, they’ve created a warm and inviting tea area with small treats and your choice of cold water or tea. Near the end of the practice, Bonnie placed mini wheat bags over our eyes to aid us in our savasana.
What I took with me from the practise: Bonnie spoke of being kind and true to yourself and to never force things, and in your practise that may look like listening to your body and easing yourself into poses. I took this with me and have chosen to apply this in life; ease yourself into things, whether they are big decisions or getting back into a sport after an injury.
Post-class pick-me-up: I headed to nearby café and bakery Purebread where I indulged in a delicious flourless brownie and almond milk latte before soaking in some sunshine at nearby Celebration Plaza, a legacy of the 2010 Winter Games.
