halifax yoga fest
posted: September 24, 2012
Haligonian: hal-i-GON-ian, noun. An individual from, or a resident of, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Haligonians are connectors and community creators. We are bluegrass musicians and folk singers, beach dwellers and surf lovers, ballsy student activists and fresh student artists, we are local and urban farmers, and we are all connected by our home. Our city is the perfectly balanced love child of the relaxed and welcoming vibrations of an east coast small town and of a thriving cultural hub. Though pint size as far as cities go, when you’re here, you feel it; this place is something big.
To give our community one more excuse to experience Halifax’s inspiring oneness we created Yoga Fest; a one-day complimentary yoga festival happening on Saturday September 29th, 2012. We are creating a space for 600+ Haligonians to connect and practice yoga together nestled in the middle of our beautiful city on the grassy fields of the Garrison Grounds. We’ll provide what’s needed to satisfy all the senses by bringing Halifax’s local music, food, and artists together.
how it’s all going down
Yoga Fest’s four yoga classes will be taught by yogis who are fearless leaders in our community.
8:30-9:30am: Moksha-inspired and taught by Kirsten Malloy from Moksha Yoga Halifax
10:00-11:00am: Power flow with ambassador Taylor MacGillivary. Get turned upside down and inside out!
11:30-12:30: Classic Ashtanga, taught by ambassadors Carmen Holm and Seth Daley from the Ashtanga Yoga Shala.
12:30-2:00pm Picnic time! Pack a picnic or purchase the fresh and local deliciousness of Nomad Gourmet, Halifax’s favourite food truck.
2:00-3:15pm: Vinyasa Flow with ambassador Amanda MacEachern from Halifax Yoga.
3:30-5:00pm We’ll end our day with a concert from bluegrass band, Halifax’s own, The Unseen Strangers, and opening band Take Part. Enjoy an extended savasana or shake it out to the music.
see you there!
Yoga Fest welcomes experienced and beginner yogis and yoginis. Come from far and wide, kick off your flip flops and feel the grass in-between your toes, open your heart and your hips, listen to live bluegrass, and get connected. Drop in for one class or stay for all four!
Out beside Citadel Hill and beyond Spring Garden Road, there is a field; we’ll meet you there with our shoes off and our mats unrolled.
