Recently, I’ve gotten to know Jill Savege at the West 4th store in Vancouver BC. She is a quirky, funny, down-to earth woman with killer quads and a flat stomach that started working with us this winter. Who knew she’s a former Olympian and professional triathlete?
Jill grew up competing in swim and track and naturally took up triathlon after university. It started out as a way to stay fit but living in the Okanagan allowed her to train nearly all year long. She began to win races and with the constant and growing support of her community, continued to place better and better.
For seven years she was a member of the Canadian National Triathlon Team competing in the 2003 Pan American Games, the 2004 Olympics and the 2006 Commonwealth Games. She took home the gold in 2003 at the Pan Ams.
“There is nothing like knowing that all that hard work has paid off,” said Jill when I asked what it was like to win. Obviously, she was ecstatic.
So why lululemon? Jill is currently taking her personal training certification and coaching two professional athletes for upcoming triathlons. While she decides on her next plan of attack she wanted to be surrounded by people with similar drive and passion for sport. She’s recently been participating in a weekly run clinic getting people geared up for the Vancouver Sun Run and is planning a weekly run group later this spring at the West 4th store.
One of the most important things that Jill wants to do while she works with us is promote triathlons in the community. “We have such an active community program at lululemon and I have learned form my personal experience that it is the community level that makes things happen. I would never have made it as far as I did without the support of my community in the Okanagan.”
Jill continues to train everyday with her fiancé who is also a professional triathlete and although she does not have any races scheduled at the moment she plans to race again.
From marathon runners to yogis to gymnasts and bobsledders, professional ski racers to ballerinas to cyclists and Olympic tri-athletes, there are people at every level of the athletic spectrum. This lifestyle, whether it’s a way to stay fit or a career has brought us all to lululemon, not just a job but a culture that embraces a balanced, healthy lifestyle helping people to live longer, healthier, more fun lives.
