why we twist

Twisting poses in yoga aren’t just because they feel so damn good. They really do benefit us from the inside out.
So why get bendy?
The twisting motion compresses the organs and inner muscles, which essentially wrings out toxins and is then replaced by fresh oxygen when the twist is released. Twist poses help flush the body of impurities, creating stimulation, circulation and tissue healing. Also, it feels real good.
Loosen up. Kinda like seaweed.
Incorporate a twist a day! Whether you sit at a desk or are on your feet, taking time out for 2 minutes to do a big juicy spinal twist will help release tension and stiffness.
Try this simple twist next time you’re feeling …
Sit in a chair, take a deep inhalation and draw your spine up.
Lift and lengthen through the sternum and tuck your tailbone under to elongate the lower back.
Exhale and slowly twist to one side (initiating from the lower back), using your opposite arm against your leg to hold the twist.
Inhale and lengthen, exhale and twist deeper. Then repeat on the other side.
And let you spine be loose like seaweed…
